Elco was born in 1989 in Zwolle, Holland. At the age of 10 he became fascinated with the sound of the guitar. Soon after that he started taking classical guitar lessons from Ronny Liew, who was also a classical guitarbuilder. This left a longlasting impression on him. Furthermore, the passion for the guitar and music in general lead him to study classical guitar at the Royal Conservatoire in the Hague.

Elco finished his first handbuilt guitar in 2014, without any prior woodworking knowledge. With a strong ambition to learn more about guitarbuilding, he entered the renowned Centre for Musical Instrument Building (CMB) in Belgium in 2016. There he had the privilege of learning from master guitar builders who taught him how to build classical guitars using traditional techniques used in the famous Granada school of guitarmaking. Additionally, he also learnt a great deal from the Spanish master guitarbuilder: Pablo Requena.

Each year he builds only a small number of fine handmade instruments. All meticiously crafted in his workshop in the Hague.
